This course aims to introduce participants to the concerns, aims and intellectual foundations of the sociological discipline. Special emphasis will be placed on an investigation of the multiparadigmatic nature of sociology; this will make it possible to highlight key conceptual distinctions, such as the process of modernization, biological determinism, the roots of inequality and deviance, the dynamics of social capital and networks, and the question of individual and collective action.
